Our Rich History
The Hegeman String Band has a long and vibrant history. We embrace the traditions of the Mummers while adding our unique flair to every performance.
Since 1920 the Hegeman Stringband has brought the tunes, costumes, and strut to Broad Street and the greater Philadelphia area and beyond. Ernest Hegeman, a music store owner from Philadelphia, launched the band in 1920 and took it up Broad Street for the first time and since then the band hasn’t look back.
10 time first place band on NYD and the first band to integrate woman and win the coveted first place prize Hegeman has been winning championships and the heart of Philadelphians for over a hundred years!
